Personality:
To anyone who'd first come in contact with her, Mai could be seen as a self-absorbed woman who cares only for herself and her needs. However, in getting to know her, one could see that deep down, she's actually quite lonely, and simply tries masking that by being such a cold woman. However, when with people she can genuinely consider friends, it's clear that she's quite caring, if a bit dry on the humorous side.

Early on, she was renowned as a "psychic", and used this certain ability of hers to effortlessly defeat any men who tried getting with her. She even used this tactic to effortlessly kick Rex Raptor out of his luxury suite on the way to Duelist Kingdom. However, as Joey Wheeler soon discovered during their duel, this was just a fraud; she was using different-scented perfumes to predict what cards she would draw; where she suffered her first loss.
In spite of this set-back, and even after nearly being taken out by one of Pegasus' eliminators, Mai did manage to enter the finals alongside Yugi Moto, Joey Wheeler and Bandit Keith. Having spent some time with Yugi's gang, she had grown fond of the group, and when faced with imminent defeat against one of Yugi's monsters, opted to surrender rather than see the remainder of her Harpies destroyed. As Bandit Keith was disqualified from the tournament, she ended up taking 3rd place in the Duelist Kingdom tournament.
Later, she managed to enter the Battle City tournament, and even qualified herself for the semi-finals; right alongside Yugi, Joey, Seto Kaiba, Marik Ishtar, Ishizu Ishtar, Odion Ishtar and Ryou Bakura. Unfortunately, her match was against the real Marik Ishtar, after Joey had knocked Odion out of the tournament. Even worse, she was facing off against his dark counterpart; the one revealed to possess the ultimate God Card, the Winged Dragon of Ra. Even with clever tactics that gave her control over Ra, due toarbitrary rules that denied her a victory in favor of an actual final boss for the Battle City arc not summoning the monster correctly, Ra was returned to Marik's side, and used to utterly defeat her; rendering her comatose as a result of the Shadow Game. Thankfully, after Marik's defeat, Mai was returned to normal...
...or so it seemed. After finishing a few smaller tournaments abroad, the idea of not sharing her victories with anyone, coupled with the returning nightmares of nearly being killed by Marik, was starting to take their toll on her self-esteem. To this end, she vowed to try and reevalute her own life, so she could rekindle the lost passion she once had for dueling; a feat she's trying to accomplish on her own.
