He is kind of meek, and doubting his own abilities; mainly because he's compared to the abilities of his brother, Zane. As such, he can be kind of clingy to people like Jaden, who he sees as his "big bro", as opposed to Zane, who's more family than friend.

As the brother of Zane Truesdale, who bore the nickname of Kaiser Ryo, people expected a lot from Syrus when he enrolled for the Duel Academy.
However, he wasn't exactly what you'd call top-tier. He just barely made it through qualifications, and ended up getting into the lowest class there is; Slifer Red. There, he befriended other Reds, like Jaden Yuki, Chumley Huffington, and other members of the school like Alexis, Chazz and Bastion; along with his brother, of course.
Though, now that time has changed, his existence has warped to reflect that change; with Duel Academy not yet created... but him and his friends in the present time.
