Name:
Yuma Tsukumo
Astral
Nicknames:
Toma, Miracle Boy, Number Hunter, ZEXAL
Age:
13
Gender:
male
Residence:
Heartland City
Deck:
Xyz One Turn Kill
Weaknesses:
Yuma...well, what could be his most obvious weakness? His stubbornness and pride. He's too stubborn to take any advice, or too stubborn to quit. He's also get so overconfident, he would look before leaping. Perhaps his wild and careless behavior makes him prone to bad luck.
Due to his short-temper and stubbornness, Yuma is easily annoyed, and frequently clashes with Astral. Yuma tends to disobey Astral's instructions when they Duel, which leads to him making mistakes. He only starts obeying when he is about to lose, as he believes the Duels are his and listening to him would mean he needed help to win.
As for Astral, losing a duel that involves Number cards would cost him his life. Also, he still is learning much about emotion and human behavior, which would make him naive. He also has a fear of cats.
Also, there is the Dark Mist, a Number card that is pure evil, and wants to take control of Astral. Though he disappeared, he could appear, anytime.
Personality:
Yuma is a hasty, energetic, and cheerful young boy who likes to challenge himself to do anything that seems impossible, which he normally fails at. Undaunted by his failures, he states that doing these challenges gets him fired up and will eventually accomplish what he sets out to do.
Astral's personality is rather ambiguous though he is very intelligent and level-headed when it comes to Duels. Even in disastrous situations, he does not seem to lose his cool and can think of a strategy. Outside this he is, arguably because of his memory loss and sudden arrival to another world, is curious to the point of naivety, for matters as simple as eating, going to the bathroom, or believing that TV shows are real. His naivety would go to such extent so as to ask Yuma why "he needs to be alone" when Yuma's in the bathroom, to which he replies by saying that he would "die" (in the dub, Yuma says that he would turn into a "guinea pig") otherwise, a thing that Astral took literally.
Likes:
Yuma: Dueling, winning, Xyz cards, rice balls
Astral: Finding pieces of his memories, dueling
Dislikes:
Yuma: People telling him what to do, Astral taking the credit
Astral: Black Mist, Yuma being a total brat
Appearance:
History:
Son of archaeologists, Yuma was then left with his grandmother and sister, Kari, after his parents went missing. Yuma was frequently teased, in school, due to his poor dueling skills, and proclaiming to become the Champion. However, before his parents were gone, he was also left with the Emperor Key; something Yuma now treasures.
One day, he was plagued with a nightmare that had something to do with a demonic door. That vision kept haunting even in his wake, especially when Yuma tried to duel against someone named Shark, for stealing a friend's card. With Yuma's poor skills, he stood no chance against Shark, especially when he had a Number card. But in the moment of stress, the nightmare came back to him, tempting him to open the door, which he did. What Yuma released was a being of pure energy, who helped Yuma defeat Shark by giving him his own Number card: #39 Utopia.
However, releasing the being, known as Astral, split his memory into pieces, into Number cards. Collecting them would restore his memory. Unintentionally, Yuma has been running into people, corrupt by the Number cards they wield, and dueling them for the cards. That is until they faced their greatest challenge; a Number Hunter named Kite. They barely walked away that duel, leaving Astral scarred in fear of Kite.
Yuma learned of the World Duel Carnival, which was something he yearned to enter and become Champion. Getting Astral spirits back up, Yuma faced many dangerous trials, and even faced Kite again, who somehow entered the Emperor's Key to face Astral. Yuma was then confronted by the Door again, offering him the power of Zexal. But he, someday, had to sacrifice what he hold dear to him. Accepting, with little choice, Yuma fused with Astral, gaining strange armor, and the power of Shining Draw, getting the newly created "ZW - Unicorn Spear", using it as an equip card on "Number C39: Utopia Ray", giving it the ability to negate Kite's "Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon's" effect, destroying it. Kite then uses his trap, "Photon Shock", giving them both the damage from that battle, ending the Duel in a Draw.
The tournament then began, where Yuma had to win Heart Pieces to qualify for the finals. He won against many tough Duelists...some with Number cards, however there were foul evil lurking around the tournament. Making it to the finals, Yuma faced Vetrix, in the Sphere Field, which would allow Dr. Faker to gather the energy of the "Numbers" Vetrix and Yuma would wield, as its effect allowed "Numbers" to be easily Summoned. Though Yuma defeated him, but he was then trapped in the Sphere.
While trapped in the Sphere, Yuma learns of Faker's purpose of the WDC to gather "Number" cards for the Sphere Field Cannon as a power source. Yuma feels relieved and was surprised to see his rescuers Kite, Shark, and Tori. When Astral undoes ZEXAL, Yuma was given "Number 39: Utopia" and "Number 32: Shark Drake" and was told to save Hart and the Astral World. Yuma is then send out of the Sphere Field bubble and reunite with his friends. When Faker appeared before them, Yuma gives Shark "Shark Drake", and ask him and Kite to lend him their power. Yuma challenged Dr. Faker while the three Duelists hold their ace cards high in the air.
After his defeat, Dr. Faker came clean about his actions and why he committed them. After revealing it was Vector who ordered him to do such things in order to save Hart, Yuma, Kite and Shark decided to go after Vector. However, Vector emerged from a portal and possessed Dr. Faker, continuing the Duel by resurrecting "Heart-eartH Dragon". As Yuma and his friends are push into a corner by Vector, Hart was able to free Astral, who then fuses with Yuma into ZEXAL.
And soon, all was done, and all was saved. However, Yuma was again plagued by his nightmares of the Door, which told him the someone will take Yuma's most important thing away from him. What it could be, he has yet to know.
As for Astral, he comes from a world called Astral World. He lost his memories, but all he remembers is that he was looking for a talented Duelist. Since it is revealed that only Yuma can see Astral, which makes everyone believe he is a ghost. Only the Number cards can restore his memory.
One time, they recovered "Number 96: Dark Mist". However, during an argument between Yuma and Brunk, Yuma's key was knocked off. That allowed the Dark Mist to break free and take hold of Astral. Luckily, Brunk had Utopia, and challenged Dark Astral to save them both. Then during the tournament, Dark Mist returns to take hold of Astral, but was stopped by Yuma. When will the Mist return, who knows?
