It's a given that you need to read this before posting up a character application. Really, it applies more to original characters, more than anything. For characters already established in canon (example: Yugi or Jaden), all you need to do is write up an application for them. With canon characters, it's usually a good idea to have a good grasp on their personality if you're going to apply as them. And players ARE allowed to challenge other players if they think they can do a better job of playing the character than their current player. That much should be known.
In the way of official characters...
Names
Try to use regular 'everyday' names. However, feel free to Japanese names along with 'dub' names (XD). Just don't try to use complicated names like something you see in a fantasy game or something.
Also, it'll help if you know what the Japanese names mean. Japanese names have meaning. For example, Yugi means 'game'.
Course, some characters just have a nickname based on colors or minerals.
Originality
Please try to be original. We don't need fifty different Yugis/Jadens running around and stuff. It can get stagnating.
One more thing! Characters (OCs we mean) cannot, under any circumstances, be related to any of the main characters. They cannot be befriended or be an arch-villain/rival for of the main characters from the start. Friendship or otherwise to the main characters must be earned in the story threads.
Expys
A character based on a certain other fiction is allowed... but try and mix the character into the RP and don't make in a crossing over character. For example:
Dru is based on Drusilla from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and while they may both be psychos who like the darkness, Dru has her own quirks (Not to mention, she seems more psychotic and murderous)!
If you happen to not have a scanner or can't/don't want to draw and just found an image of a certain character that could work for you own but with different personality and stuff, that is ok.
Balancing Abilities
Don't make any Gary Stus or Mary Sues. Simple as that.
Decks
OC duelists can't have things like God Cards or other very rare cards at the start. The only ones who can have rare cards without winning them are canon duelists who already did so, like the participants of Battle City. Although for players who been here for quite a while, and are trusted, exceptions can be made.
Customed decks are highly examined. And remember, list every card your character has. We will look at them while your character duels.
Beginners and Experts
If you started out in the RP, you have to make a beginner character that will get a starter deck. Characters that start out with some customizations (though not with rare cards), you can app them if you played in the RP for a short while, and we trust you.
